When you think of a typical deployment and installation, it's not often that you get to choose the Java version that you want to install. This poses a bit of a problem for Rational Automation Framework. WebSphere 8.5 comes with java 6 & 7. The default install is 6. Where and how do I change this in my automation installation of WebSphere 8.5.
Look at the product templates. Look at response files for your desired installation. A response file has a <features> tag. It consists of all the features that will be installed. In the features tag, you will see that Java 6 is being used. You can just add the java 7 feature. This will install WebSphere with Java 7, but it doesn't quite utilize it to the fullest extent just yet.
That is how you will get WebSphere 8.5 installed ready to use Java 7 in RAF. But in order to utilize Java 7, you will need to run the managedsdk.sh script located within WebSphere. Currently, we do not have an action that handles this for you. You can review my creating custom actions blog to get a great idea on where to start. If there is enough www.twitter.com/raf_websphere responses, perhaps we will make a custom action just for this and blog about it.
That's all for today!
