I would like to add a comment about IBM Redbooks residencies, in particular what happens after your have submitted your nomination to a residency.
There are a couple of important information to look for in the announcement and in the nomination form. In the announcement, you need to look at the start and stop dates of the residency to make sure you can participate in the project giving your work schedule, and also that you can count with full management support for the duration of the project. There are some residencies that require local and remote participation, so keep that in mind before submitting your nomination.
There are times that the residencies are announced many months in advanced, thus keep this in mind, and if there are changes to your participation (for example, you cannot attend anymore), please at least send the IBM Project Leader an email with heads up that you cannot attend participate in the project anymore. It is challenging when a nomination gets accepted to participate in the IBM Redbooks residency program, and the selected candidate cannot participate even though the candidate knew this information for months.
Although, IBM Redbooks covers in the majority of the cases travel and living for the duration of the residency, please keep in mind that IBM Redbooks does not reimburse for time.
After the nomination period ends, the IBM Redbooks Project Leader evaluates all the nominations, and select a balanced team to help deliver the commitments specified by the project's funder.
A few of the nomination will become backups to the project in the event that a selected candidate cannot attend the residency. The Project Leader will attempt to make the selection many weeks in advanced to avoid issues with timing to get all the procedures completed to attend a residency.
Note: The current residencies can be found in the IBM Redbooks website (www.ibm.com/redbooks) under the Residencies tab located on the left side of the main page.
I encourage to submit your nomination to IBM ITSO residencies for consideration.
Have a great weekend.
