After a second residency writing about PowerVC, I can tell you that the tool has some sort of maturity now and is prepared to manage more complex infrastructures.
The first new feature to introduce is the Shared Storage Pool. Now you can easily manage your SSP within PowerVC.
SSP is a group of LUNs mapped to several VIOs across multiple frames. This LUNs become part of a Pool and are shared between all the pool members. Then you can create, map, delete or modify storage units named LUs (Logical Units) from any of the Pool members. The LUs are automatically populated to the rest of the nodes in the Pool. Finally you can map this LUs using vSCSI to any client partition, and the best part: all this is possible from PowerVC with a few clicks.
The second feature is the Port Tagging. This enables you to assign arbitrary tags to the fiber channel ports. This allows to split physical adapter with multiple ports in several logical configurations. With this feature you can easily force traffic to specific ports according to specific tags information.
Finally the last feature is the ability to manage PowerKVM through the PowerVC management server, including initial VM setup and install.
