Well, lots of time to drink coffee this morning helping neighbors and strangers look at ways to resolve problems. So today's blog is a lot of snippets - but I hope they can assist, or inspire! In other words, after reading this I hope you feel compelled to check out http://www.rootvg.net because ...
You can help too - and/or post questions!
This morning I was helping a neighbor with his Mac. Not soon enough it seems, because with bad disks - no readable superblocks, not even copies, is basically a lost disk. Another problem, now for a stranger, has been a query about how to get perl working better on AIX. Perl is not my favorite subject - so much I do not know, but slowly progress is being made.
Currently it looks like a forced reinstall of perl is needed. Topic: Problem with CPAN on AIX 6.1 System
A force install is an approach to fix things that have gotten broken, regardless of whether caused through known or unknown actions. Going blindly ahead with an update_all may not fix the problem at all and/or create new ones as well. I like to preserve ways back (so test system, or cloned system for research) to the original problem.
Rather than duplicate the "whole story" here, which is hard - and boring (for me) - to write I invite you to visit rootvg.net as a reader. I also invite you to be a contributor (or ask a question). However, while reading can be done anonymously, anything else requires a registration. Registration is almost automatic - as I rarely deny a registration request. However, you do have to wait until I get to "approving" requests. The site owner (not me) got very tired of cleaning up after bot registrations - so now I must manually approve them. Good point is that we have little "spam".
Feel free to share your wisdom!!!
