I heard a rumor that DFSORT's competitor, SyncSort exploits MIDAW and the zIIP engine. . Any chance of DFSORT responding in kind? It's easier for us to sell a z9 and z10 if the customer gets benefits from it in their sort jobs. Just another little brick in the wall.

I'm afraid I'm really not in a position to comment on DFSORT's plans or otherwise, not being a DFSORT developer. <div>&nbsp;</div> From conversations on IBM-MAIN I think it's fair to suppose that Syncsort can use MIDAWs and zIIPs under some circumstances. <div>&nbsp;</div> Now, under WHAT circumstances and what the actual benefits are I really couldn't say. It'd be interesting to see some figures, though. My perception is that sorting CPU is a small part of most customers' overall workload.

Is there a possibility to eliminate duplicate records by sort without providing the length parameter (should always be sorted on the full record lenght)? i.e. (but like this it gives an USER COMPLETION CODE=0017 )<div>&nbsp;</div> //S010 EXEC PGM=SORT //SORTIN DD DISP=SHR,DSN=CHR0271.PRINT133(TESTIN) //SORTOUT DD DISP=SHR,DSN=CHR0271.PRINT133(TESTOUT5) //SYSOUT DD SYSOUT=* //SYSIN DD * SORT FIELDS=(01,,CH,A) SUM FIELDS=NONE<div>&nbsp;</div>
