I was in support in 1989 and we eventually rolled out Notes to everyone and it became a core part of our customer service processes - everything from solving open tickets to writing technotes was done in Notes. Believe it or not, when I first started in Customer Support, when we took a Customer Service Request (CSR), we wrote it down on a piece of paper! (Okay, now I feel like the guy who used to wax poetically about the good old days of punchcards fed into a mainframe running in Dallas...)
With Notes, we could enter these CSR's online and other people could help solve the problem by providing responses. Reputations were made based on your ability to answer those questions for other people in the department. Our entire organization changed as a result. Now, that's power.
