Lotus Connections shipped in June 07. However, after it was first announced in January at Lotusphere 07, customers couldn't wait. The market demand for a social software for intranet deployments to allow employees to connect with people and information was overwhelming. Additionally, companies came to IBM as they wanted to leverage the Connections services (Profiles, Communities, Blogs, Dogear, Activities) for their corporate website to allows their customers to provide feedback and build communities of interest. Since so many companies wanted to deploy Lotus Connections for B2E and B2C, we worked with ISSL to enable consultants to deploy beta builds of Connections for customers.
By the time Connections went eGA, we had a team of consultants that were very well adverse with planning, deploying, configuring, and customizing Lotus Connections. We have been able to enable more consultants and partners as more and more customers realize the value of social software and want to deploy Lotus Connections. Using Lotus Connections internally at IBM, our consultants have shared their experience via blogging, bookmarking, creating activity templates, and building communities around Connection deployments. ISSL is now working with our development team and publishing a 6 or even 7 part series of articles all related to Lotus Connections.
