As promised, there was some new announcements today at Lotusphere around social computing. IBM announced Lotus Connections. By now, everyone is familiar with MySpace and might even know del.icio.us or Facebook. IBM has listened and learned from user behaviors and been able to apply that to productive software to help employees better communicate. Some of the technology announced today has been widely used within IBM for years and I am an advocate for social computing technology. To sum up Lotus Connections, there are 5 components
Profiles - Profiles quickly identify people within your organization by searching on job title, responsibilities, skills, location, and experiences.
Activities - Adhoc or planned collaborative means across multiple methods of communication including documents, emails, instant messages, and just about any type of collaboration you can think of.
Dogear - Social bookmarking technology that allows you to post bookmarks across browsers while tagging the content for faster search.
Communities - Find other people within your organization that share a common responsibility or expertise.
Blogs - No definition needed.
