I'm looking forward to Lotusphere 2006, not only because of the sessions I'll be doing - 3 this year, I think - but also a first for Lotusphere - the Jamfest, which is part of the new Bootcamp sessions, for some reason. Anyway, anyone can go and hang out, dance, or join the jam. I'm waiting to see just how organized it will be.
I, for one, will be bringing my bass (Fender P-bass). I'm hoping I can toss it in the overhead. I used to be so paranoid about traveling with my guitar (a '77 Martin D-35 - one of them - guitarists always have more than one guitar. The other being a '58 Gibson ES-175 I bought for $500 in Flagstaff, AZ!) because they don't always easily fit. Sometimes the flight attendants will have mercy and put it in the business class closet. Checking it just frightens me. I have a double bass, too (well, 2 actually) but have not had to travel with it on a plane yet. When it was shipped to me, it came in a giant case - the cases themselves run $3000! I won't be bringing that one to Florida.
The only way to get to the Jamfest is to sign up for Lotusphere 2006. I guess you'll have to pitch the Bootcamp to the boss and go easy on the fun stuff.
