Over on lotus.com (aka ibm.com/lotus) Ken Bisconti responds to the MS people-ready marketing campaign aimed at IBM. The good news/bad news is that we've been successful enough with our product strategy that Microsoft is feeling the need to focus on IBM directly. I don't see IBM getting squished, although MS will convince a fair amount of people that they invented people productivity, when, in fact, IBM (and specifically Lotus) has been talking about and delivering products for this for years.
And, almost all customers have a mix of technologies in their company that need to be integrated, not all of it from one vendor. A good strategy is to look at open standards and a service-oriented architecture as a way to achieve that integration effectively. Once you have more than one application to deliver to users, it starts to make sense to look at portals and composite applications as a means to do it. These technologies bring flexibility and agility to your development efforts, and make your end users happy.
