InfoSphere Information Server V11.5 enables the next generation of market-leading integration, quality, and governance platform.
Organizations can take advantage of new features in version 11.5 to realize the inherent value in the information sources they have available and unlock that value at a faster pace than ever before. Whether that information resides on premises in a traditional database or warehouse, in an Apache Hadoop-based data lake, or in the cloud, InfoSphere Information Server enables the enterprise to make use of that data to satisfy the needs of the business.
InfoSphere Information Server now offers revolutionary capabilities to enable your enterprise to operationalize Hadoop in ways that were previously not possible. In this release, Information Server can execute directly inside a Hadoop cluster. This means that all of the data connectivity, transformation, cleansing, enhancement, and data delivery features that thousands of enterprises have relied on for years, can be immediately available to run within the Hadoop platform. This enables the richest set of integration and governance features in the industry, used to solve some of the industry's most complex data challenges, to operate where the company's big data is stored. These features minimize data movements, thereby decreasing time to delivering business value.
This enhancement also maximizes the performance an organization can achieve with Hadoop. Organizations have used IBM's shared-nothing, massively scalable engine to run some of the largest data transformation workloads in the industry. These engine-exploiting, in-memory features such as data partitioning, data pipelining, and dynamic repartitioning enable seamless integration with Hadoop YARN. System resources are managed appropriately by YARN in a way consistent with the organization's policies for their shared services environment.
Perhaps most importantly, these new features for Hadoop use the same simple graphical design environment that IBM clients have previously built millions of integration applications with. This means that organizations can build new Hadoop-based information intensive applications without the need to retrain their development team on newly emerging languages that require manual hand coding and lack governance support.
The ability to run Information Server in Hadoop is made available in both the existing Information Server licensing, as well as under new packages called IBM BigInsights® BigIntegrate and BigQuality. These new packages offer a node-based licensing model to better scale on the Apache Hadoop cluster capacity. For more information refer to Software Announcement 215-349, dated September 15, 2015.
IBM has extended the data governance capabilities in version 11.5 to empower the data steward team to manage their data assets (metadata) and ensure they are meeting the business objectives for their data (data quality). These features are now more relevant than ever when the following three factors are considered:
InfoSphere Information Server V11.5 includes new features for the organization to define the policies and rules for what data is of specific interest to the organization and then to survey their various data sources to ensure where that data lives and how it is being used. The organization can then lower the amount of money spent in finding and protecting sensitive data (such as personally identifiable information PII) and increase their understanding regarding compliance with business requirements for how sensitive data should be managed.
This release also extends the types of data sources that can be cataloged, both through prebuilt integration (such as with new XML metadata support) as well as through a new open model for metadata integration. Other software vendors, system integrators, or IBM clients can extend the reach of the InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog through standardized interfaces. Those interfaces capture any assets, any set of attributes, and the lineage for how that information relates to any other information asset.
Optim™ 9.2.1, 10.0.2, and 11.3.1 simplified offering updates
Several updates have been made to the InfoSphere Optim simplified offerings with versions 9.2.1, 10.0.2, and 11.3.1.
The following offerings now include new capabilities to analyze and understand data using the features of InfoSphere Information Analyzer (offered currently as part of InfoSphere Information Server for Data Quality and InfoSphere Information Server Enterprise Edition):
In previous versions these Enterprise Edition offerings included IBM InfoSphere Discovery as a supporting program. With this new release, InfoSphere Information Analyzer delivers many of the same capabilities offered by InfoSphere Discovery, but also offers additional features such as enhanced scalability, security, data rule management, and custom reporting.
The following offerings no longer include IBM Guardium® Redaction as a supporting program:
