As of now, DB2 on Windows supports ActivestatePerl (both 32bit and 64 bit) and Strawberry Perl (32 bit ONLY). To get the 32 bit DBD::DB2 binaries supported with 32 bit Strawberry Perl, you must email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact IBM support for the required binaries. 64 bit Strawberry Perl is not supported yet. Thanks!
Users can use the DB2 Trace Facility (db2trc) in DB2 BLU ( BLU aka CDE - Columnar Data Engine) environment to collect the critical performance diagnostics information using new component, CDE_PERF_TRACE. To collect performance diagnostics, one should run: db2trc on –m CDE_PERF_TRACE
... run workload ...
db2trc dmp perftrc.dmp
db2trc fmt perftrc.dmp perftrc.fmt
There were reports on "db2trc on –m CDE_PERF_TRACE" not working due to some yet unidentified environment problem.... [More]
Informix introduced the PSM (Primary Storage Manager); a new backup storage manager in version 12.10 that replaced the previous ISM (Informix Storage Manager). The PSM manages storage devices used for backup and restore requests that are issued by Onbar. This storage manager supports both serial and parallel processing for backup and restore requests. PSM is easier to set up and use, even in embedded environments. You just need to perform four simple steps to configure PSM and take an Onbar backup: Decide where you will create the PSM catalog.... The best-fit Java class for an Informix DATETIME value is java.sql.Timestamp. Java.sql.Timestamp technically inherits from java.util.Date; although, there are some semantic differences which are not typical of inheritance relationships. All the constructors, getters, and setters which are not deprecated for Date and Timestamp use values based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). They are offsets in milliseconds from the epoch, January 1, 1970 00:00:00 GMT. So, it would be logically consistent for Timestamps to convert to DATETIMEs using the GMT... [More]

There are situations where in a HADR environment, transaction on the Primary are blocked(applications will seem to hang) when the HADR database is in peer state and there is a network event (network congestion/network down or the Primary does not receive ACK from the Standby-Standby log buffer full). This can be explained with the help of Brewer's CAP theorem. Brewer's CAP Theorem: Brewer's CAP theorem states that, in a Distributed Computer System, we can guarantee only two of the following simultaneously:... [More]

Rocks, Paper, Scissors? Heads or Tail? Good guess's but none of the above. A tiebreaker is a object used in a DB2 HA (High Availability) cluster environment comprised of even number of nodes. In such a cluster environment, when both nodes cannot communicate with each other, the tiebreaker is used by both nodes to see which node is still active and can continue to host cluster resources. This in essence, is " breaking a tie ", hence, a tiebreaker. Tiebreaker requirements A tiebreaker must be accessible from all nodes in the... [More]

During crash recovery, if many load operations have to be replayed, then it might take a long time to complete. The load operation will keep the pending operations in transaction logs no matter if it is recoverable load or non-recoverable. These pending operations will be kept in transaction log just before the table status is changed back from "load in progress" state to "normal" state. If the crash recovery starting point - min(lowtranlsn, minbufflsn) is before load pending operations then db2 will have to replay... [More]
