The Information on Demand Conference will get under way this weekend! If you aren't able to attend the event in person, there are many ways to connect with the event from home. Check out our suggestions below:
On the IOD Livestream site , you can watch streaming video of the conference throughout the day. See the EXPO, listen to keynote speeches, watch interviews with key IBMers and IOD attendees.

Do you see different results for same query from Websphere Application, even though the underlying data is not changed? Consider a table with column of datatype decimal(5,2). If you are inserting "0.18999999999999995" into this table multiple times from Websphere applications using JCC drivers, you will see the results as follows: COL1 ----- 0.19 < First Run 0.18 < Second Run 0.18 < Third... I came across a situation where one of my client recreated an instance but were not able to catalog the database successfully. > db2 catalog db sample SQL6028N Catalog database failed because database "SAMPLE" was not found in the local database directory. They were running this command from instance home directory /home/db2inst1 . So it is clear that the local database directory does not exist under instance home... [More]
Ever wonder where to get a cheatsheet to catalog a connection from a DB2 client to a remote DB2 server on LUW? Here it is with simple step-by-step instructions!!! On the DB2 server: 1) Set the DB2COMM registry variable to tcpip. db2set DB2COMM=tcpip. 2) Verify whether it is set correctly using the following command: db2set -all Output: [i] DB2COMM=tcpip 3)Check the DBM CFG for SVCENAME parameter and make a note of it. db2 get dbm cfg For example: TCP/IP Service name (SVCENAME) = db2c_db2inst1 (Either... This one is a fairly simple one, but the question has come up a few times this week already. When you are using an overflow log path in your ROLLFORWARD command and you are doing it in stages you need to include that overflow log path in your final STOP command as well (so DB2 can find those logs for the final wrap up of the rollforward. If you leave off the overflow log path on the final "stop" or "complete" command you will get an SQL1273N error about missing logs. A simple example of how to do it... [More]
Queries in partitioned (DPF) environments generally have multiple subsections executing concurrently, with each subsection executing on one or more database partitions. As a result when a DPF query is performing poorly it can be important to identify which subsection or subsections may be holding up the progress of the query. For long running DPF queries, explain (db2exfmt) information and global application snapshots provide very useful information which can be used for this purpose. These... [More]

In the beginning of May, IBM significantly updated the IBM Support Portal support site, with improvements to make this worldwide one-stop site for technical resources for all IBM products even more effective and useful for our clients. Some are adjustments our clients have requested, others are redesigns to improve our clients' efficiency finding the information they need. Here's a quick rundown of new capabilities to look for.
Several enhancements have been made to the product selection function. In the “Choose your products” module, users... [More]
Tables which contain a generated column defined with the ON UPDATE AS ROW CHANGE TIMESTAMP clause are intended to track the time of the last update of each row in the ROW CHANGE TIMESTAMP column. However if one wishes to export and repopulate the data in a table containing a ROW CHANGE TIMESTAMP column (for example extracting and moving the data to another database) there can be specific considerations if the desire is to preserve the original timestamp values in the new table. Recommended method: In order to... [More]
How to restore critical administrative files with onbar utility? It is already known to us that onbar backs up some critical administrative files during storage space backup. These critical files are as follows: The onconfig file UNIX: The sqlhosts file The ON-Bar emergency boot file: ixbar.servernum The server boot file: oncfg_servername.servernum There may be a situation when you need to restore one of these files, for example: replace disks, restore to a second computer system (imported restore) etc. However, previously there was no easy way... Nowadays, DB2 is running on many hypervisors based on various cloud and virtualized environment. And virtualised environment has various types including bare metal or operating system(O/S) hosted architecture. So sometimes there can be a confusion when we interpret a compatibility document in terms of Virtualisation technology experts. The point is that hypervisor itself is also a kind of O/S technology basis. For example, PowerVM is actually working on AIX O/S and we should be able to differentiate this from the target O/S where DB2 will be... [More]
