sqllib directory needs to be manually removed in certain DB2 HA installation setup

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

sqllib directory needs to be manually removed in certain DB2 HA installation setup

Body

A  common confusion  happens when a  DB2 installation is tried in a  HA  setup where  the  DB2 instance home is shared across two  hosts.

The db2 is installed along with  creation of  db2 instance from node1.

That will  setup db2 in node1 updating the registries and  creation of  sqllib   directory under instance home.

Then,  after  fail-over to node2  side a  confusion happens about  what to do with the sqllib  directory  which is already created as  part of installation from node1  side.

Trying to install the db2  at  node2  side  will fail when try to create the instance  as the sqllib directory is already present there.

The trick is  just   manually remove entire  sqllib directory before try to install  db2  at node2 side.

Then,  a new installation of  db2 along with instance creation will recreate back the sqllib  directory.

That way  the local  db2 environment will be  created in node2  similar to node1   and  the sqllib will be  created back  in the common  instance home directory.

Important point to remember,   both  node1 and nod2  have to be  identical looking for this kind of HA setup.
