IMPORTANT HARDWARE SUPPORT NOTICE -
IBM is discontinuing the use of analog dial up modems for service communications from our hardware. Dial connections use a modem connected to an analog phone line. These communications include automated calls for support as well as authorized transmission of error log data.
AT&T has announced the sunset of the infrastructure that supports these older methods of analog dial up communications in phases.
There were several communication methods deployed over many product generations. Currently we utilize a secured Internet connection. The modem based dial up methods will be replaced, where available, starting with the oldest methods first. The first phase will be complete by September 30, 2016. The total migration of all modem communication is expected to be completed by March 31, 2017 for Australia/New Zealand; by June 30, 2017 for ALL other non US countries. The United States will continue to use a Fenced Internet dial protocol on a month to month extension from AT&T, after June 30, 2017, if required.
IBM will offer configuration assistance to utilize a product based internet connection.
No initial action is required from our customers, but each customer should be considering using a secure internet connection at this time. IBM Technology Support Services (TSS), Business Partners and SO accounts will contact affected Customers that IBM records show to actively use dial up sessions for automated calls as well as authorized transmission of error log data.
