Recently we have identified this issue. The symptom is that the object store database was essentially hung for 18 hours. This issue won't hit all CE customers who are using MS SQL 2012, but it has the potential to hit any of these customers, depending on how many custom fixed length columns they have defined. The symptoms are very severe. As discussed in the technote, the problem may be seen when adding a custom column via ACCE, installing an AddOn, or when upgrading to a new CPE server release.

Microsoft is looking into a change to address this, but they do not expect to be able to deliver such a change in a hot fix. They have let us know that any changes to their current algorithms in this area will be delivered in a future release. In the mean time, they are working on putting out a Knowledge Base article on this, and on providing a script that can be run to determine whether a table will encounter this issue when a new fixed length column is added.  We will update our technote on this when the Microsoft scripts and KB article become available.
