Abstract

Errors occurred during the installation. "Unable to install IBM FileNet Application Engine over IBM FileNet Application Engine: Installed product has newer version."

Body

Sometimes when installing or reinstalling IBM FileNet Application Engine (AE) on a server where AE has been installed before, you can see an installation error similar to the following:

"Errors occurred during the installation.  Unable to install IBM FileNet Application Engine over IBM FileNet Application Engine:  Installed product has newer version."

The FileNet Application Engine (AE) installer 'remembers' the installed version of AE by looking at the following files:  vpd.script and vpd.properties.  Its very possible that these are left over from a previous installation.  So what you would need to do is review the vpd.script and vpd.properties files for any references to FileNet Application Engine or Workplace.

On AIX, rename the current files from

/usr/lib/objrepos/InstallShield/Universal/FileNet/AE/*/_vpddb/ --> vpd.script and vpd.properties to add a date suffix.

On HP-UX, LINUX and Solaris, rename the current files from

/root/InstallShield/Universal/FileNet/AE/*/_vpddb/ --> vpd.script and vpd.properties to add a date suffix.

On Windows rename the current files from

C::\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield\Universal\FileNet\AE\*\_vpddb\ --> vpd.script and vpd.properties to add a date suffix.

Once these two files have been renamed, attempt to install AE 4.0.2.x once more.  The installation should succeed this time.
