The Forrester Wave™: Application Life-Cycle Management, Q4 2012
As you know, for a number of years Rational has advocated ALM as a critical differentiators for business success, and we believe that this report serves as a strong validation of our efforts. In the report, Forrester states that ALM "is making workers more productive, creating engaging customer experiences and bringing new software products to market more successfully." Application lifecycle management, or ALM, has paved the way to competitive advantage in two big ways. For IT teams, ALM helps align the IT infrastructure with business needs, which can sometimes change overnight. For systems engineering teams, ALM provides a way to link lifecycle data to electrical, mechanical, and software engineering practices that ultimately improve efficiency and ROI.
In the report, Forrester said “IBM’s offering is becoming more than the sum of its parts. IBM’s position in this year’s assessment of the ALM market is a testament to an important principle: It’s not enough just to have good products — the products, in combination, must support common activities in software development and delivery.”
Forrester concluded that not only had IBM continued development of our strong suite of products, but we have "also stitched them together in a more coherent way" and that our company "has also made clearer the use cases it supports … such as Agile teams and embedded software development."
