As some of you may have seen, Google recently acquired a robotics company called Boston Dynamics. While we have to wonder how robots will help improve advertising revenue, this acquisition is consistent with other areas of exploration at Google for self-driving vehicles. What is interesting here for all of us is seeing how fast robotics is developing. Boston Dynamics, along with Honda and others, have created a level mobility in robotics that is approaching what we only saw in Terminator movies a few years ago. Of course, mobility is only useful when combined with intelligence. With the latest levels of fast, ubiquitous connectivity along with cognitive computing, it is not hard to imagine what the next 10 years could bring.

If you are interested in one possible (hopefully unlikely) outcome, I recommend this book for your holiday reading. Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson is a good read and it is also being made into a movie.
