Vice President, Rational Complex & Embedded Systems
This man, Hu Songwen, in China has kept himself alive for 13 years with a home made dialysis machine. He did this because he could not afford the normal treatment and the hospital was too far away even after the government offered him medical aid. While no one should have to risk their life to make a life saving medical device, we all have to appreciate the inventiveness of this man, working with what he had available, to create a cost effective solution. Engineers have to work within design constraints, including budgets, and being able to balance those requirements to produce the right solution is the sign of great engineering.
