This is a great example of managing requirements with discipline and ensuring they are connected throughout the design and build stages of a project. This skyscraper in Spain was designed to be 20 stories tall. At that point, it had elevators designed to meet the requirements. Over time, the developers expanded the project and pushed the height to 47 stories including 269 homes. Unfortunately, the designers did not consider that elevators for a significantly taller building would also need significantly more room for the equipment.
At this point, the original designers have quit, and there is still no working solution for the elevators. While the design changes here were unusually significant, changes happen all the time. Understanding and managing the impacts of changes in requirements is what separates success from failure.
