About the the BVQ Node / Cache / SAN analysis:
This is a quick test which gives a good overview if performance bottlenecks exist in the storage system. This test covers the SVC / Storwize nodes, the managed disk groups and the node ports. It is a very quick but deep analysis of the following areas in the IBM SVC or IBM Storwize systems.
An experienced engineer is able to perform this test in less than 20 minutes.
Content of the Node / Cache / SAN analysis
-
Analyze node CPU and global cache
By analyzing the heart of the SVC / Storwize it can be determined if there is a risk of running into performance bottlenecks because of high system or compression CPU load. First information can be obtained with a look into the global RW and write cache. Overflow conditions occur because of peak loads or slow backend performance.
-
Analyze partition caches In the case of overflow conditions in one of the storage pools they can be found with a detailed analysis of the inner data circulation of the SVC / Storwize. Issues can happen here because of massive writes into the caches which sometimes are uncontrolled and can be avoided by better load distribution. Another sign can be that the backend storage is no longer able to cover the load.
-
Analyze node port performance
The outer data circulation of the SVC / Storwize can be analyzed by regarding the load distribution across the ports. By checking the buffer credit wait % or the error indicators it can be determined, if the SAN traffic is interfered by external blockages.
