We just released the new offline scanner which will now also scan the drive information from any Storwize product.

With this we can make more accurate statements about the performance of individual drives in an array.
This function is available only for the offline scanner today, because we can do the analysis in the lab where we already use the upcoming BVQ release 3.4.

The BVQ development team is currently working on the new BVQ dashboard functionality. This new dashboard should become available in 1H2015.
The dashboard is great for monitoring, you can open several dashboards and put them onto different screens, this will then be a complete storage control station.
Each of the different windows can be graped, zoomed out and used for any kind of analysis.
put different SVC or Storwize systems on different monitors or you just mix them - as you like.
This is just a new experience with the newest BVQ Beta code which will become available as BVQ Version 3.4 in some weeks.
BVQ Version 3.4 will have a completely refurnished internal data handling which you will not recognize as a benefit today but this is the base for new methods we will implement early 2015.
One of the main benefits of the new codes is performance and exactly this is why I did the video.

This is an example of an successful latency peak analysis were we found the reason of a performance problem in the remote copy connection. It is very complex to analyze RC performance problems but the BVQ Copy Services Package adds all tools needed to navigate through the complete set of metrics and find the issue.

In short Special circumstances can cause an overload of the SVC/Storwize upper cache. The impact of this situation can be very dramatic. The new BVQ Offline Scanner now also supports the new IBM SVC and Storwize Family Software Version 7.4
General support for the new 7.4 code will be available with BVQ Version 3.3.2 which we plan to make available this year.
If there are needs to do a performance analysis on a 7.4 code before the BVQ V3.3.2 becomes available, you may use the offline scanner and send us the data for analysis.

The unbalanced VDisk mirror problem
Many performance issues are caused by an unbalanced situation in the two sides of VDisk mirrors.
One finds, that a mirrored Volume runs into latency peaks which cannot be explained by the Volume behavior itself. The managed disk groups (mdg) in the storage backend show completely different load and latencies.
We have recognized that often the distribution of primaries can cause this problem.

Storwize Family Software V7.3 has implemented many changes, specially in the cache architecture, Easy Tier and re-striping of storage pools. The changes target to enhance overall system performance. The experience is good but sometimes little things can cause trouble and can lead to a deterioration.
