Check out this quote:
"The critical issue for Google is to segment commercial Gmail traffic from consumer traffic. Google must prove that consumer and commercial services are largely independent of each other, and that the commercial services will sustain at least a 99.9 percent uptime, which is the standard for most commercial e-mail SaaS (software-as-a-service) services."
Matthew Cain, Gartner, InfoWorld, "Update: Gmail Suffers Widespread Outage," September 01, 2009
For those who havent seen the news on this outage:
"Google Inc's efforts to persuade businesses to buy its email services suffered a setback this week after a highly publicized outage shut down accounts of millions of corporate customers for almost two hours."

"The IT team originally tried building a new e-commerce system based on a Windows platform, but the solution did not meet Discount Tire’s performance, reliability and stability needs. Additionally, Discount Tire’s use of IBM Lotus Domino Server was a critical aspect of its daily ability to meet business demands. Previously running on Windows, the lack of reliability and consistent downtime of its Lotus software was critically impacting its day-to-day operations.
After extensive testing and load balancing, Discount Tire selected Red Hat Enterprise Linux for its critical systems. Since, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform has run Discount Tire’s entire e-commerce operation, as well as numerous internal applications, including its Lotus Domino application" Check out http://www.lotusonredhat.com

"Are there issues with SharePoint? Yes, absolutely. The user experienceis not great. The functionality I expect in discussion forum islacking, or requires customization. The blogging capability is perhapsthe poorest of any enterprise product out there. The wiki is really nota wiki. The implementation of RSS rather than Atom was a stunningmistake. There's no tag/bookmark capability and the social networkingcapability is mediocre. SharePoint requires customization - feworganizations succeed at an enterprise-level with SharePoint withoutsignificant investments to customize the platform."
