This is Team Red’s first blog for The Great Mind Challenge.
In this blog we will be providing news and updates of current s technologies
that involve social media, TGMC, GBS and any other relevant news reguarding The
Great Mind Challenge.
Team Red consist of four team members.

University and are Management Information Systems. I will allow each team

I am Craig Imazumi. I am Japanese American and born and
raised in California. As of date, I am twenty-five years old.
I am currently a Business Administration: Management
Information Systems major at San Jose State University. As a MIS major, I am
learning many technical skills along with core business fundamentals. I
personally believe that San Jose State is an excellent business school.
I personally enjoy the outdoors. More specifically I enjoy
fishing and camping in the outdoors. Indoors I enjoy being a tech nerd. I love
staying up to date on the newest and greatest technology.

I personally am excited be in such a vast competition involving
colleges from all across the United States. I believe the support from SJSU
along with TGMC coordinators is making this a very enjoyable experience.
My name is Scott Mattern. I was born and raised in San Jose, California.
I currently attend San Jose State University and I am graduating in May this year, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management Information Systems.
My interests include playing ice hockey, playing video games, hanging out with friends, listening to music, eating fantastic food and amazing desserts, hanging out with friends, watching movies, driving my car, and occasionally going out to the bars.

Hi, my name is Hanh Nguyen. I am Vietnamese. I was born and
raised in Hanoi- the capital city of Vietnam.
Currently I am
studying at San Jose State university. I plan to graduate this Fall semester
with a BA in Business Management Information Systems. Previously, I graduated
from Wellington high school in Wellington, New Zealand.
My interests are video games, soccer, website design,
programming and networking. I also like to study about social networking and

The Great Mind Challenge provides me a unique experience
with social business. The competition helps me understand more about social
media and how it will help me to gain competitive edge in the market.
This video is about IBM’s Lotus technology and GBS and how they interact with each other creating a leader in innovation for the Lotus community. GBS products, GROUP Live and Transformer are powering IBM Lotus software. GBS has been supporting Lotus since 1992 creating state-of-the-art application and industry-leading products. They are cost effective and provide enterprise-class support and confidence in the future. Most of the money is spent on research and development guarantees. We chose to do a flash card style video because we thought it would be better to engage the viewers by making them read it rather than partially listening someone talk about it.
Social media is a growing concentration that is attracting a
lot of attention globally. With innovations in technology, social media has
grown exponentially in the last few years. Social media networks such as
Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, LinkedIn and various other social
networking portals are the key instruments that are truly bringing social media
Team Red created a social media video with a few fun facts
about social media and how it affecting the world as we know it. This video was
made from paper flash cards rather than a boring Power Point Presentation. We
thought that the audience will have a strong appeal to it.
Facebook currently is the leader in social media. It has
over 845 million active users since December 31, 2011. The company has more
than 3000 employees and its revenue is 3.71
billion US dollar in 2011, up from 1.97 billion US dollar in 2010. Mark
Zuckerberg- the founder and CEO of Facebook started the social networking
service and launched the website in February 2004. Since then, Facebook user
base growth quickly and as of 2012, Facebook is probably the most well known social
networking on earth. To be able to use Facebook, new user must register, after
which they may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, exchange
messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile.
Facebook has a very unique function called “the like button.” Whenever, an user
click “like” a web page, or a book, or a movie, Facebook then automatic update
new information related to the “like” items to the user’s wall.
Apple today has grown to be one of the most popular tech companies to date. Ever since the introduction of the iPods new technology has been rolling out year after year. The highlight and most predominant contribution that Apple has made to social media is their world class iPhone. The first iPhone was unveiled by Steve Jobs, the late CEO, of Apple on January 9, 2007. Approximately every year, sometimes more and newer generation of the phone has been introduced. The biggest prestige of the iPhone is their unique operating system and worldly renown App Store. As of Feb, 2012 ComScore has estimated that 12.4% of US mobile subscribers are using an iPhone.
Within this current era of social media, the iPhone/iPad are Apple's key instruments to stay "connected" with the world. More and more individuals are moving away from traditional desktops/laptops and are transitioning to a more mobile platform. The Mobile world is the next step in social media.

Verizon is not a just a cell phone provider, but a company that knows social media. Verizon is extremely well integrated with social media platforms to ensure that their company message and vision gets expressed through blogs, postings, tweets and various other portals. Predominantly Verizon is more integrated on Facebook pages. In fact Verizon has separate Facebook pages for the individual segments that they cover: corporate, residential, wireless, small business, and medium and large business.
As well as social media portals, Verizon provides their clients a forums to communicate with specialist and others within the community. With these unique tools Verizon is able to stay connected to social media at all times, day or night.
YouTube is the most well known
video-sharing website in the world. The founder are Steve Chen, Chad Hurley,
Jawed Karim, later they sold Youtube to Google for 1.65 billion US dollar. The
company is based in San Bruno, California, and uses Adobe Flash Video and HTML5
technology to display a wide variety of user-generated video content. The
videos are movie clips, TV clips, music video, video blog, interactive video
movies, movie trailers and other creative motion picture contents. Individual
users are the group that uploaded most of the contents on YouTube. However,
media corporations such as CBS, BBC, VEVO, Hulu, and other organizations are
the group that uploaded copyright contents such as music video, movie clips,
and documentation. If a user uploads a copyright video, He or she will be
notified by YouTube and the company will take the video down. YouTube continues
growing and it is one of the best channels for social network. Many users
become YouTube partner to gain profit from their contents.
Tumblr is a microblogging
platform and social networking website. David Karp is the Founder, and CEO of
Tumblr, Inc. He founded the company in April 27, 2007. Since then, Tumblr grows
rapidly and it is occupying position 39th on Alexa ranking chart as
of March 2012. Tumblr provides a space named “tumblelog” for users to post
multimedia and other content. The owners of the tumblelogs can make their blog
private or let other users to follow them. Many of Tumblr features utilize the
“dashboard” interface, where users can choose option to post content and post
or follow other users’ blogs. Tumblr is one of the well-known social networking
services, and users can utilize its feature to expand networking and interact
with other user.
Smartphone is the new
generation of cell phone. It is powered by a faster central processing unit and
it has more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a feature phone.
The PDA or personal digital assistant is known as the first generation of
Smartphone. The PDA has a touch screen
and user can use it features to send email, take picture, schedule task, and
capture video. Nowadays, Smartphone such as Samsung Galaxy II or Iphone 4s
serve to combine the function of a feature phone with portable media player,
compact digital cameras, compact video cameras, GPS, and more. Users can
interact with their Smartphone by a high-resolution touchscreens. They can
browse the web, play a game, check their email, send a text message, accept
friend request from Facebook, do a review of a restaurant on Yelp, sell or by
stocks on E*trade by utilize the application installed on their Smartphone.

a solution for users to maintain a list of professional contacts and manage
their relationship with their “Connections.” The users can invite anyone to
become a connection. However, LinkedIn has a feature to prevent spam users. A user keeps send invite to an individual and
he or she selects “I don’t know” or “Spam” option on the invite email, this
counts against the inviter. If the inviter gets too many of such responses, the
account may be restricted or closed. LinkedIn is a very important tool for
social business for professional users or organizations to maintain their

is the latest version of Android for Smartphone. It was announced on October 19, 2011, and brought many interesting
feature to users including facial recognition unlock, network data usage
monitoring and control, unified social networking contracts, photography
enhancements, offline email searching, app folders, and information sharing
using NFC. Android is currently the most popular operating system on Smartphone
and it is a very important platform for social media and social networking with
