Problems with TRIRIGA email (incoming or outgoing)?

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Problems with TRIRIGA email (incoming or outgoing)?

Body

Whether you are installing TRIRIGA for the first time or setting up new TRIRIGA server, getting all of the email communications configured properly may require some additional work.

For New Installations:

Review the entire TRIRIGAWEB.properties file. Note that I am indicating the file itself and not reviewing the contents via the Admin Console. Currently, the only way to view any detail about a TRIRIGAWEB property is to look at the file itself. In that file you will find Section 2: External Server Settings where both incoming and outgoing email configuration needs to occur. Be sure to review these settings with your email administrator to insure they are set properly.

For Existing Installations:

When you add a new server to your existing configuration, it is important to make sure that you have these properties properly configured for all of the servers in your installation. The reason for this is that an email notification may be triggered either synchronously or asynchronously and could come from either the process server OR application server. In an environment with multiple application servers and/or multiple process servers, improper configuration of these properties could lead to intermittent email communications. As an example, suppose you have a 3 server configuration where servers A and B are application servers and server C is a process server. If one of either A or B has these email properties properly configured, then any synchronously triggered email that would be triggered could either fail or succeed depending on which application server the email action is triggered. Likewise, if the email is triggered via an asynchronous workflow, then server C had best have the email properties configured correctly.

For All Installations:

The properties that you need to check are as follows:

mail.smtp.host
mail.smtp.email.domain
mail.imaps.ssl.key
mail.imaps.ssl.port

Additional EMail Configuration:

For the reservation functionality, Section 4: System Settings contains properties that pertain to email which s used to implement the reserve functionality. In particular, EXCHANGE_ROOT_PATH, EXTERNAL_MAIL_SERVER_USERNAME, and EXTERNAL_MAIL_SERVER_PASSWORD properties need to be properly configured. If you have a concern about a password being in this file, be sure to read the note above these properties as it describes how to insure that the value is encrypted.
