The latest developer survey from appcelerator seems to indicate the developer interest in Android is declining despite the huge advantage Android has in terms of number of devices. It seems that fragmentation combined with lackluster app sales on the Android platform are to blame.
As I have always maintained, the number of devices means little if the platform is fragmented. Case in point is Java ME -- there are probably still more Java ME phones (i.e., "feature phones") out there than iOS and Android devices combined. But, few developer today are even remotely interested in writing apps for that platform. The need to test extensively across hundreds of devices (fragmentation) really kill the viability of a mobile platform.
