Do you develop web applications or mobile applications?
Do you think of establishing a startup with lesser investments/ start as an enterpreneur
Do you need to create a project quickly?
Do you want to start learning new technologies? There is so much happening in the cloud space and you
find yourself lacking behind others?
If the answer to any of the above questions is “yes” , then I would say IBM Bluemix is the solution.
I would say its the “smart” way to build an application in minutes.
Starting with a very basic question:-
What is Bluemix?
Lets go by the definition mentioned in the documentation itse
“IBM® Bluemix™ is an open-standards, cloud-based platform for building, managing, and running apps of all types, such as web, mobile, big data, and smart devices. Capabilities include Java, mobile back-end development, and application monitoring, as well as features from ecosystem partners and open source—all provided as-a-service in the cloud. “
Bluemix is a platform as a service (PaaS) offering based on the Cloud Foundry open source project that promises to deliver enterprise-level features and services that are easy to integrate into cloud applications. Since it is based upon Cloud Foundry (open source platform as a service) so you can tap into the growing ecosystem of frameworks and services.
There's a wonderful article I found at IBM developerWorks that tells about Cloud Foundry,Bluemix and IBM Services that can be accessed from Bluemix
So now you can spend time on other useful things rather than spending time on installing softwares and configuring frameworks and you can use tools you are comfortable with . All you need is a bluemix account..
If you havn't signed up for the free trial version I encourage you to do so.
You can sign up here:-
I myself signed up a few days back and exploring the same. Once you have a bluemix account you can login and see the first screen which seems to have nice graphics and design.
Bluemix provides a dashboard for you to create, view, and manage your applications and services as well as monitor your application's resource usage. The Bluemix dashboard also provides the ability to manage organizations, spaces, and user access.
Clicking on Catalog takes me to a wide menu of options to chose from:-
One can easily get started choosing from this wide menu.
I will take you through the look and the feel of the Bluemix UI and about creating a sample application in Bluemix in my next article which should come soon.
