Ecosystem Development: IBM Startup Festival

Leaving bed at the stroke of dawn and ready for action by 8 AM - it was certainly not a typical weekend day. The fact got quickly established as I drove through well manicured landscape and walkways, some 40 minutes later, in one of the liveliest places of South Delhi - Hauz Khas; name itself hints that the day is going to be "special" ("Khas" in Urdu language means "special" ). Yes, you guessed it right, I was at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. I was there to participate in IBM Startup Festival for Academia, as part of Ecosystem Development program.
Being a Saturday, it looked like a lazy day though soon IIT's seminar hall started to buzz and I realized passion does rule!! We had varied audience - students who already had some idea with them and looking for launch pad; students who have setup their startups while doing graduation; and then the entrepreneurs who left their high paying jobs to pursue the passion.
The day started with an overview of the Ecosystem Development program byIrfan Shah and Apra Sahney from ED team. As the details followed, I can see many faces brighten up to understand how IBM is helping startups to firm their feet. Audience had queries ranging from how to verify the idea and then the obvious queries like how to create the necessary infrastructure in order to develop and host the customer facing web-sites and apps. It quickly came out that the challenges aren't unique but the answer certainly is. A perfect prelude to introduce CodeName: BlueMix . Then, there were success stories shared by Pivotal Consultancy, and Investopad - talking about their journey from being an idea to an established venture in short span of time.
The event ended with a tech-chat session with Nihar Tiku, Jaspreet Singh, Rishi Bhargava, Jitendra Ajmera, and Rajat Kakkar - IBM SMEs for Cloud, Mobility, Social Business, Watson and Business Intelligence, answering queries ranging from security to developing bio-meteric enabled mobile apps.
