There are multiple ways in which DB2 supports recursion in SQL and recursive SQL is explained in many classes. What seems to be missing however is a write-up how to write recursive SQL PL. That is how to allow a function or procedure to call itself? Here I explain how a routine can call itself in SQL PL.
Recently I discussed the motivation behind using anonymous blocks. The
reasoning was centered around the need to execute complex scripts on
the server without being able or willing to define a routine in the
database's catalog. Inside of an anonymous block you can then define all the logic flow you need. You can also declare local variables to hold temporary data. DB2 10 expands beyond that by allowing you to declare local types and local procedures. I discuss the feature at sqltips4db2.com .
Many years ago when DB2 re-entered the TPC-C benchmark war a new set of SQL was developed to improve the efficiency of SQL for key OLTP transactions. In this blog post I discuss SELECT FROM INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE which's impact goes well beyond TPC-C.

When IBM announced DB2 10 for LUW on April 3 claims were made that DB2 10 is compatible with 98% of the source code of applications written for Oracle . Claims are easy to make, but hard to back up. IBM
