Location intelligence brings analytics to people in a geospatial manner, helping you to gain critical insight and make more informed decisions.
One method for incorporating this into your existing Cognos Business Intelligence is through the use of the Interactive Map Widget. The Cognos Workspace interactive map widget is able to utilize online maps from the following popular vendors:
ESRI Maps from ESRI Incorporated (http://www.esri.com)
Google Maps from Google Incorporated (http://www.google.com)
Bing Maps from Microsoft Incorporated (http://www.microsoft.com)
By default, the interactive map widget uses only publicly available service URLs. No access key or other information is passed to these services unless you modify the configuration settings. Before attempting to implement any configuration changes make sure that you understand and adhere to each vendor's terms and conditions.
How to start
To start using this widget, simply extract the zip file to the root of your Cognos install folder with Cognos services stopped. This will add some additional files to both Configuration and Webcontent folder with no files removed.
Once Cognos services are restarted, you will be able to use the new Interactive Map widget in Cognos Workspace to show a live base map and plotted points based on contents from your reports.
The new widget can be found by navigating to the tool box pane and dragging and dropping the widget on the workspace. Please note that this widget works best in Firefox.
Give it a try and enjoy GeoSpatial!
