Create a basic blog if your main goal is to use a blog the standard way: to regularly write/post content about a particular topic, and a customized look and feel is not your priority.
Note: We acknowledge that you can get a blog in two ways. If you already have a group, you can simply add the blog widget to your group (see the Basic group tab). If you do not have a group, proceed to create a stand-alone blog. These instructions explain how to create a stand-alone blog. A stand-alone blog is recommended if you desire to create an Advanced blog (see next tab). You can have as many stand-alone blogs as you need.
- Requesting a stand-alone Blog:
Step 1: Log in to developerWorks by going to www.
After you have signed in, click the link below to fill out a request form.
You will promptly get an email with further instructions on how to get started as well as how to request further blogs.
Note: Once you get a blog you will see the screen below.
We strongly suggest choosing the "minimal" theme from the drop down as it is the latest and most optimized. That "minimal" theme is what these instructions are based off of.
Choose your blog name. This can be changed later on.
Choose your Handle carefully as it can not be changed!
Note: Your blog can be in an Active or Inactive state. Active means your blog is immediately public and searchable and will show up on dW blog lists. Inactive means it is hidden and only people with the direct URL can view the blog; it cannot be searched and is not visible on blog lists. You can use the inactive state to your advantage as you build your blog and make it active when you are ready. To enable or disable Active vs Inactive simply go to your blog "Preferences" and uncheck "Blog is active:"
If you would like to add further customization to your blog click on the "Advanced Blog" button above.
