As storage continues to grow in your environment, it is important to know how your storage is performing and that it is tiered correctly in order to reduce costs. The latest on-premises release of IBM Spectrum Control™ (IBM® Tivoli® Storage Productivity Center), a member of the IBM Spectrum Storage™ family, is now available. It is full of consumer oriented features and enhancements that provide the ability to monitor and manage your storage infrastructure efficiently. For the downloads for this release, see Fix Central. With this new release, the IBM Spectrum Control development team continues to pay attention to what you want and how you want to monitor your storage systems by centralizing, simplifying, and optimizing storage tasks that are associated with your storage systems.

You can view information about the following monitored resources:
On the Related Resources/GPFS Clusters page, the Shared File Systems column shows the number of file systems shared between the clusters.
When you click a value in the Shared File Systems column, the new File Systems page opens that provides details about the file systems shared between the two clusters. It shows information like the name of the file system on the owning cluster, the name of the file system on the cluster mounting it remotely, and the number of nodes mounting the file system on any GPFS cluster known to IBM Spectrum Control.

When you click a value in Nodes Mounting column of the new File Systems page, the properties page of the corresponding file system opens with the information for Nodes Mounting tab. It shows, in detail, which nodes on which GPFS cluster have the file system that is currently mounted (for example, had it mounted the last time IBM Spectrum Control probed the clusters)
You can also view all the nodes across all the monitored clusters that mount a file system. Three new columns were added to the File Systems overlay page for the IBM Spectrum Scale:
The new columns do not appear in the default view. You can add them by right-clicking the table heading and selecting the columns from the context menu.
IBM FlashSystem V9000 monitoring
The IBM FlashSystem V9000 storage system is now available for monitoring in IBM Spectrum Control. As always, in order to monitor a storage system in IBM Spectrum Control, you must configure a connection to the storage system and schedule the collection of data. A probe is run automatically to collect status and asset information about the storage system.
The V9000 Flash modules are visible as managed disks in IBM Spectrum Control. If you want to be automatically notified when certain conditions are detected for FlashSystem V9000 storage system or any supported storage system, you must view the alert definitions for that resource. For example, to view the alert definitions for a FlashSystem V9000 storage system, go to Storage > Storage Systems, right-click the FlashSystem V9000 storage system, and select Edit Alert Definitions. The default alerts are enabled automatically for the storage system after you access the Edit Alert Definitions page.

Simplified optimization views for tiering storage and balancing pools
The purpose of analyzing tiering is to tier volumes based on the I/O rate or I/O density thresholds that you set. Depending on the conditions that are set, recommendations are generated.
You can reduce storage costs by moving volumes with low workloads from higher and more expensive tiers to lower and less expensive tiers. Storage performance can be improved and used more efficiently by moving volumes with heavy workloads to the tiers that meet the workload requirements of the volumes. When you implement the recommendations, you ensure that the volumes are placed on the tiers that best match the workload requirements of the volumes. IBM Spectrum Control has made it easier to define the thresholds that determine the placement of volumes and the thresholds that prevent re-tiered volumes from overloading destination pools.
You can define two types of thresholds, I/O rate or I/O density rate, which determine whether a volume is up-tiered or down-tiered. To ensure that pools do not become overloaded when volumes are added, you define maximum I/O rates for the pools on each tier.
You balance pools to distribute volume workload across pools on the same tier in your storage environment. Now, all that you need do to balance pools is right-click two or more pools on the same tier and same storage virtualizer, and click Balance Pools.

Increased fabric management support
You can view information about Cisco NPV switches from the Fabrics page. You can also view information about the routes from ports that are connected to a hypervisor, server, or storage system to ports that are connected to fabrics.
You can view the internal routes from Fibre Channel ports to proxy node ports, that is, from F_ports to NP_ports with the Internal Routes tab:
NPV switches are switches that are configured to work in N_Port Virtualization (NPV) mode. NPV switches use N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) technology to allow multiple logical connections to a fabric switch port.

Viewing cache performance metrics for IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller, IBM Storwize, and IBM FlashSystem storage systems
You can now view performance metrics for the new cache architecture that was introduced in SAN Volume Controller V7.3. For example, you can view new metrics for the volume cache and the volume copy cache.
The performance metric updates are available for SAN Volume Controller, Storwize, and FlashSystem block storage systems whose firmware version is V7.3 or later.
