With z/VM 6.4 we have upgraded CMS Pipelines. The number of built-in programs has doubled in comparison with z/VM 6.3, and numerous built-in programs were enhanced with new features and options. The new function can greatly simplify writing robust applications with CMS Pipelines. The new features often result in more efficient processing. While the new level of CMS Pipelines in upwardly compatible with earlier releases, users miss a lot by not exploring the new features. Few users can afford to sit down with the new CMS Pipelines User's Guide and Reference to study all the enhancements. Most users learn CMS Pipelines in a more gradual way: exploring new functions when needed to get the job done easier, and using the time saved to explore new features.
In "Pipe of the Day" we provide additional inspiration to explore unknown features of CMS Pipelines through real world scenarios and use cases. We compare alternatives where applicable, and compile a collection of examples that may be helpful for plumbers to quickly spot how to use a certain built-in program. The examples work on the current level of CMS Pipelines that is available with z/VM 6.4, but anyone running the so called "Field Test Distribution" or the IBM Internal level will find that the examples also apply to that level of CMS Pipelines (unless pointed out otherwise).
We love to hear your "how can I do this?" questions on CMS Pipelines or any other suggestions for subjects that need to be covered here.
