New Tivoli EIF Probe Enhancements Ease Event Processing and Building a BSM Solution

Looks like we've finally included broader fundamental Tivoli EIF rules file content for common IBM Tivoli products. You'll see our BSM Solution work take this concept even further in 2011 and beyond.

We have made a global change to how we handle the EIF rules files for OMNIbus and for 8 other Tivoli products. The new scheme involves shipping a master EIF rules file with the EIF probe with commented out include lines for each product. The include rules files are then shipped with the EIF probe if they do not change or with the product if they do. For OMNIbus this effects the EIF include files in our extensions directory.

We have already changed this in 7.3.1 and the new EIF probe (v10.0.0) will go out at the same time as OMNIbus 7.3.1 goes GA. We also need to make the same changes to 7.3.0 and this needs to go into the March fix pack to make sure the window where EIF probe and OMNIbus 7.3.0 are incompatible is as small as possible. Earlier versions of OMNIbus have no EIF integration.

These types of capabilities are key to establishing a solid foundation for Business Service Management (BSM). The more effort, energy and resources you invest in normalizing, enriching and creating a useful BSM Event format the easier your BSM Solution development, deployment and ultimately consumability and value will be.
