Are your logs not telling you what you need to know? Do you want to learn more about configuring policy logs to track event processing?

The following presentation and the associated technote provide information on how to get added value from the policy logger service and guidelines on how to approach structured logging in policies.

Content covers:

Policy logger service configuration

  • Enable the policy logger service to write to file.
  • Enable the policy logger to log all the SQL produced by the policies.
  • To make the log easier to read select the Append policy name to Log File Name to identify which SQL relates to which policy.
  • Set log levels and how to apply them.

Structured logging in policies

  • How to apply prefix values to uniquely identify the event and its position in the policy process.
  • Use custom variables such as ID and WP so you can set locator values to be reported with each log statement.
  • Locate where the log output is stored and they types of logs you can create.
