Abstract

Impact -> clustering between nameservers on different operating systems

Body

Impact -> clustering between nameservers on different operating systems.

It has been observed that clustering between nameservers on different operating systems works.

The following combinations of operating systems have been setup.

Impact 6.1

Solaris 10 <--> Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.3

SuSE Linux Entreprise Server 11.2 <-->  zLinux SuSE Linux Enterprise server (SLES) 10.1

SuSE Linux Entreprise Server 11.2 <--> Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.2

Impact 6.1.1

Solaris 10 <--> Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.3

SuSE Linux Entreprise Server 11.2 <--> zLinux SuSE Linux Enterprise server (SLES) 10.1

SuSE Linux Entreprise Server 11.2 <--> Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.2

The following basic tests were completed on each cluster:

1. Policy creation and verification that the policy was replicated over to the secondary server.
2. Primary shutdown and verification of takeover by secondary as primary.
3. Modification of same policy, on the new primary server,  then
restart the original primary server, letting it take over the
secondary, observation that policy modifications are sent back
over.

*** While these clusters have been observed as functioning correctly, there could also be potential Issues:

e.g. Individual OS level timers that can affect things like sockets, ports and TCP/IP settings which affect how Impact handles failover/failback.
