Welcome to the Business Service Management Blog, where you can read the perspectives from BSM experts. This Blog provides insights into the BSM solution, as well as technical details about specific IBM products.
This scenario shows how to create a custom dashboard in the IBM Dashboard Application Services Hub ( DASH ) component of Jazz™ for Service Management . The custom dashboard that you create uses IBM Tivoli Netcool/Impact 6.1.1 Flat File DSA to retrieve data from a comma separated values file. You can update the scenario to use Tivoli Netcool/Impact to retrieve data from multiple flat files, filter this data in context based on events from publishing widgets, such as a table, and display the data in another widget such as... There is an encoding enhancement in Impact 5.1.1. Impact uses UTF8 as a default encoding to handle policies. So Impact 5.1.1 and newer release could read, write and display special character correctly, such as accent, either in file system or GUI pages without setting a specific locale/encoding.
However, customer need set correct locale to display them normally in Impact 5.1.0 and older release if policy having special characters, otherwise garbled characters will display. Customer set correct locale... [More]
This scenario shows how to create a self service dashboard in the IBM Dashboard Application Services Hub (DASH) component of Jazz™ for Service Management . The custom dashboard that you create uses IBM Tivoli Netcool/Impact 6.1.1 to connect to and retrieve data from an IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) 6.3 dashboard data provider. You can also use Tivoli Netcool/Impact to combine metric data from multiple managed systems and filter this data in context, based on events from publishing widgets such as a list or table.
Cross Product Integration documentation has been created to assist those carrying out solution deployment and solution integration. The Cross Product Integration documentation uses a scenario based approach to explain possible solution integrations.
Cross Product Integration has a dedication Service Management Connect wiki that can be found here:

If you have the Solutions for BSM on a TBSM 184.108.40.206 system, you can upgrade to version 6.1.1 and retain the features of the solutions.
However, if you want to install the solutions on a newly installed 6.1.1 system, you must take additional steps to update the main TBSM policy. For more information about the Solutions for BSM and TBSM 6.1.1, see the Overview and Planning > Installing Solutions for BSM on TBSM 6.1.1 topic on the TBSM Wiki

In this scenario, you learn how to use the Netcool/Impact library functions and the GetHTTP policy function to call the SOAP interface in IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM).
You create Netcool/Impact policies that use the SOAP interface in IBM Tivoli Monitoring to query or set data in IBM Tivoli Monitoring.
The SOAP interface in IBM Tivoli Monitoring provides several methods that retrieve data. The relevant methods are as follows:
Sends an event acknowledgement to the IBM Tivoli Monitoring... [More]

Just before Pulse in early March we introduced the
Maintenance Zone concept for Tivoli Business Services Manager. This is a section or zone on the “Resources”
tab of TBSM’s page on Service Management Connect. It provides you pro-active information on the
latest maintenance for the product. There
are links to generally available (GA) patches/fixpacks, best practices and
other useful information on the product’s maintenance.
You can access the Maintenance Zone for TBSM at this link -... [More]
In this scenario, you are required to write Netcool/Impact policies to retrieve data from web services, however, retrieving the correct data through the web service can sometimes be difficult as additional information is required from the JAR files or the WSDL itself to access the information. In these particular examples, you have two web service examples:
Weather – retrieves weather data for a particular area
Stock – retrieves stock quote data for a particular stock symbol
You can use Netcool/Impact to expose data types and policy user output parameters through the UI data provider to populate Tivoli Integrated Portal (TIP) charting portlets. Through the use of Netcool/Impact polices, you can provide additional filtering logic to allow the data populated in the portlets to be in context of other portlets, like the Netcool/OMNIbus Active Event List (AEL). In this scenario we will visualize the archived event data in real-time.
In this example, we have a Netcool/OMNIbus ObjectServer TDW (Tivoli... [More]
