The Finalist Pitch Breakdown

If you missed the live feed or could not attend the event today, here is a rundown of the business pitches the finalist entrepreneur companies shared today. Yesterday, I watched the practice session of the pitches, and got to observe some of the mentor meetings that took place. Today, all of the presentations showed great strides of improvement and implemented alterations to their pitches. Below is the summary of each contestant’s presentations and some comments about their performances.
2012 SmartCamp Global Finalists (Alphabetical Order)
2. C-B4 Context Based 4Cas
Based in Bangalore, India, collects and analyzes information that is specifically developed for the telecommunications, utilities, and transportation industries Vivek Khemani explained how ConnectM’s system can be operated remotely, with automatic monitoring. The idea is that ConnectM helps society function more effectively and problems are resolved more efficiently. This presentation was the most confusing, and was hard to follow because Khemani did not fully explain their mission or goals in an easy to understand manner.
The hometown of IXDP is Belo Horizonte, Brazil. IDXP is also a consumer behavior analyst. Gustavo Lemos explained that IXDP install sensors in retail stores and shopping carts to help their clients understand their customer’s shopping behavior, patterns, and tendencies in real time. IXDP’s idea seems useful to retailers, because it tells them what their customers are doing while they are shopping in their stores. IDXP’s idea analyzes the data collected from the shopping cart sensors that can indicate how product placement affects their sales. Lemos is a very talented public speaker; his ability to captivate his audience will boost his chances of winning the competition.
Ronald Nan Zhang from Shanghai explained that Palmap offers maps and directions indoor places. The need to locate and navigate indoors is the market that Palmap is after. People often have difficulty of get lost in shopping malls, miss sales and discount opportunities, or coupons, events. Palmap’s goal is to redefine what a map can offer. Users can define their search with up to 50 attributes, and offers near to real time updates from merchants. What sets Palmap apart from other navigation products is the detailed richness of the information they can supply. I was very excited to be introduced to Palmap because their solution is to be the guru of navigation and to provide details about the Points Of Interests (POIs) in their network. I think that this product could be successful because finding your way around places that you have never visited before is challenging. Palmap’s solution would help people who are hopelessly incompetent with directions indoors and outdoors.
Volodymyr Pigrukh from Dublin, Ireland discussed their smart solution of how they collect data for on-line retailers about their competitors, so they can scoop up more market share. Profitero takes a friendly approach with his pitch, Volodymyr has a jubilant speaking style; he is decked out in his company’s tee-shirt and jeans rather than traditional business attire. He stands out from the other contestant because his smart idea is to join up with the online retail giants (Amazon, Auchan, etc) and tells the online shoppers the offering price, and who is selling a given product. Profitero’s idea makes online shopping a breeze because it displays all the prices offered on one webpage.
8. Secure Waters
Presenting for Secure Waters is Robert Clark from Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. Their mission is to monitor, detect and identify toxins in bodies of water and provide a warning alarm system to alert clients of potential dangers with the water. Secure Waters have dreamed up a product and system that provides a public service device that tests, accurately detects, and does not use toxic chemicals to test the water sources. Mr. Clark is a true southern gentleman, and his pitch flowed smoothly. I liked that his explanation of his company’s device was clear and was easy to understand his business strategy. I believe that Secure Water’s would make the world a smarter and safer place for everyone.
Last but certainly not least is the SkinScan pitch. SkinScan’s hometown is Bucharest, Romania, and Victor Anastasiu enlightened us about the importance of raising awareness of skin cancer. Their idea is an App that evaluates your skin’s health. Simply, download the SkinScan App, take a picture of a mole, and you will get an accurate evaluation on the condition and risk of melanoma (skin cancer) presence. The software SkinScan uses is linked to dermatologists, and if your results are reported as high risk SkinScan will refer you to the nearest Dermatologist. Skin cancer can be deadly if not detected early, so SkinScan helps save lives.
