Abstract

Reduced Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) by Leveraging Jazz for Service Management !

Body

Jazz for Service Management Administration Services has been creating a buzz these days around easy integration and administration of the IT products and solutions in distributed and remove environments. Administration Services enables you to manage various aspects of these products and solutions in your environment, such as health, configuration, availability, lifecycle, and serviceability. Administration Services has a common and consistent administrative interface that simplifies a wide range of administrative tasks to manage the products and solutions, representing service management systems.

One of our valuable business partner - Persistent Systems, recently shared their experience on Simplified Administration of their product/solution on OpenNMS. The white paper sharing this experience demonstrates how the Jazz for Service Management Registry and Administration Services simplify the job of open integration of distributed products and automate the various service management aspects involved in maintaining large scale deployments. The paper is targeted for developers and architects involved in integration of different software products. The paper talks about how Jazz for Service Management services leverage the powerful capabilities of Open Services Lifecycle Collaboration (OSLC) and Linked Data for the above purpose. It very nicely explains the concepts and step by step process on how Jazz for Service Management Administration Services can be used in distributed environment (with deployment architecture diagrams) to automate the service management aspect of OpenNMS, which can be similarly followed by other solutions too.

Persistent Systems were able to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) for the OpenNMS solution by reducing a lot of time spent by Administrator in maintaining complex enterprise deployments. The paper quotes: "We found that the solution saves over 80% on configuration activities of the environment and over 90% in health management of the management stack.". Wow... now that is a huge process improvement for product administration.
