Abstract

Jazz for Service Managment: First impressions

Body

I wanted to share my early experiences with Jazz for Service Management. I am part of Network Solutions (Netsol), an IBM company, which is leading provider of IT Infrastructure Services. Netsol's proven service delivery model and mature ITIL- based processes support scalable and flexible solutions. Broadly classified, Netsol's services include IT Managed Services and Network Services.

Customers seek real time information about how their infrastructure is performing. Some of the key performance indicators like CPU usage, memory etc need to be monitored on a continuous basis. By leveraging Dashboard services in Jazz for SM & Tivoli Directory Integrator we were able to paint this picture. Sharing the real time information around how the environment is performing would boost customer’s confidence in our delivery capability. In the absence of this capability one would have to generate and share reports on the above aspects at a regular basis.

The other aspect of Jazz for SM which we are exploring is Admin Services. This offers a common user interface from which one can perform Administrative tasks across products. The knowledge required to perform the operation is encoded into a task. This approach helps us capture the Subject matter expert knowledge around the product into tasks/scripts, while letting the administrator to be a generalist. The other benefit is that of centralization. I can do multiple operations across products from a single point which helps me save time.

I hope to continue blogging my experiences around Jazz for SM.

We have Automated below products using Jazz for SM

1) ITM TEMS(2) and RTEMS(23) start/stop/restart using Jazz common user interface.

Key Advantages:

In Netsol, we are providing shared monitoring environment for all customers,in each customer premises we have ITM --> RTEM components running over there to monitor their infrastructure

Whenever we have maintenance window or scheduled downtime for  entire ITM infrastructure, in those cases accessing each customer remote tems server and performing start/stop will consume more time, needed more resources too. due to this activities my maintenance window or scheduled windows will take more time (may be an half day).

Using Jazz common UI, i can schedule the all the RTEMS start/stop as per activity plan with out any physical resources which can save lot of time and i can opt for minimal downtime using jazz which bring productivity and trust on client with short time maintenance windows

2) User/Group Creation in LDAP using Jazz common user interface

Will be updating soon.....
