Did you just hit a scenario where the thresholding options are not available while configuring your Status Gauge?
Status Gauge has a special affinity towards a value which is of type ‘Status’. If you see the description of the mandatory parameter it says “Numeric Value/ Status expected”.
Status object is a little enhanced version of a numeric value provided by the data provider. Providing a Status object is optional for a data provider, so not all providers or... [More]

Adding your custom content to DASH got even simpler. DASH 126.96.36.199 (JAZZ SM 188.8.131.52) added a feature called myBox. This allows you to add any custom content like images for background or logo, JSPs, static HTML to your dashboard.
Feature myBox is a pre-installed custom space for your web content. After adding your custom content to this space, you can use a well defined URL to add the content on your dashboard
Follow simple steps below

Dashboard authors often like to chart data over a time range, something like "the past 8 hours." The charting widgets included with versions of IBM's Dashboard Application Services Hub before 3.1.1 (as bundled with Jazz for Service Management 1.1.1) appeared to make this easy. When a data set included a parameter of the data type datetime or isodatetime , the chart's configuration user interface generated a popup dialog that let the user enter the time range.
This was a feature added in response to a need by... [More]
The start of the football season is a welcome time on my calendar. Football fans all over venture in fantasy football leagues, where a perfect combination of appropriate components can lead to a successful season. The same applies to the world of software. Like new draft picks, there are enhancements and new products which make way every year, IBM software group is a leader on this front.

Page Launch is used for drill down scenarios internally in DASH. Using page launch you can launch a page and pass the context to that page by selecting the Dashboarding widget. This can be configured through Quick Edit of the widget.
In Quick Edit, there is an option called “ Page to Launch ” where the available pages in DASH will be listed in a combo box. You can select any page and that page will be launched and the context will be passed to the page on click of the Dashboarding widget.
Explanation of the various controls available to DASH administrators for managing how long a user can stay logged in, and when unused sessions are cleaned up.
Lightweight Third Party Authentication (LTPA) token timeout
The LTPA token timeout is the duration the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) trusts the user's credentials. Ten minutes before the token timeout, the user will be prompted to provide the user id and password. If the user does not enter valid credentials within five minutes after receiving the... [More]
If I have multiple products deployed in an IT environment, I can use each of them individually. However, solving a problem often requires access to information from multiple products . For example, if I have a problem with a business application, I might need information about which servers and associated hardware and software support that application. I might then want to know details about how those servers are configured, which of them are overloaded, which ones have had recent configuration changes, and if there are error events being... [More]
The Dashboard Application Services Hub component of JazzSM is quite good at creating dashboards suitable for use on large shared displays such as wallboards in critical operations centers or even informational displays in building lobbies. But did you know that these displays can be configured to cycle through multiple dashboards on a timer?
This is a frequently requested feature, but is not actually delivered as a feature of DASH. It can be achieved with capabilities already supplied with DASH however: the ability to host... [More]

Being able to control status icons in a DASH widget is a very useful feature when creating a dashboard. In this post I'll show how you can use TDI to populate a DASH List Widget with status values from a .csv file.

The out of the box widgets that come in Jazz for Service Management with the Dashboard Application Services Hub (DASH) are built to show data coming from a data provider. Several products already come with a data provider that is ready to go. However, it may be the case that you would like to show some data that is currently not being served up from a data provider. In these cases, you can use Tivoli Directory Integrator (TDI) to make this data available to DASH. (Impact also allows you to get other data and make it... [More]
A common need when building dashboards is to allow a user to click on an element in the dashboard and transition that user to another page that contains related or more detailed information about what is being clicked. For example, clicking on a status gauge showing overall status and moving to another page that has some detailed information about that status.
This kind of drilldown is configured using "wires" in DASH. Here, I'll walk you through the basic steps of setting up a wire that will launch your... [More]
Do you have a need to create a navigation link in DASH that points to a page displaying content from external url.
DASH has a handy widget called "Web Widget" to help you with this. You can create a page in DASH via GUI or via command line for the scenario. I was taking a DASH consumer through the process and realized that posting this simple technique could help other DASH consumers as well. Read below for more.
If you like to create page via GUI, you can start by... [More]
Have you tried enabling your custom dashboards for mobile devices. I get this question very frequently. Its quite simple in DASH
You need to create a view in DASH and enable it for mobile.
Navigate from Settings to Views panel and create new view and make sure to check the checkbox that says "Enable for Mobile"
See the screen shot below
Add all the dashboards that you wish to enable to this view. Next, login into DASH from your mobile device to try out.

Sometimes it can be very confusing when you are doing the right thing but the results do not reflect that. It can be frustrating trying to figure out what exactly went wrong.
When installing services provided under Jazz for Service Management (JazzSM), the installer fails to validate Websphere Application Server (WAS) or DB2 credentials. Depending on which services are installed either WAS or DB2 or both are needed. However the authentication for either fails in JazzSM, even though the passwords work fine when used directly in WAS and... [More]
The next DASH version, scheduled for May 2015 (in JazzSM 1.1.2), includes an enhancement to the Table and Tree Table widgets that allows the page author to format the content of numeric data columns.

Time to time, through no fault of our own, software installations fail to complete for wide variety of reasons. The problem is further complicated when we attempt to reinstall the products in a less than pristine environment. Recently we have seen an increase in this type of installation issues. Jazz interacts with a wide variety of IBM products so there are multiple potential points of failure.
You may find yourself in a situation where you have corrected the problems you encountered, and would like to start the entire process over... [More]

An interesting tool that Registry Services provides is a command line interface (CLI) that can be used to change URLs in Service Providers and Registration Records. It is safe and very flexible to attend several use cases. An example: suppose that a Service Provider is running on AustinSP1 server, and this server crashes; the URLs for all the records that are created by this Service Provider in Registry Services still point to AustinSP1, which is no longer accessible.
The following sections will explain how to solve this and similar... [More]

I want to share with the DASH community on how we can approach building some unique custom dashboards in DASH leveraging Netcool/Impact. With the intuitiveness of DASH, combined with the simple out of box integration for Impact we can put together a custom dashboard relatively quick.
One of the challenges that we see across numerous clients is the ability to customize a list of resources. In a typical environment, a user would have a combination of Windows, Linux, and UNIX servers. Within the Tivoli Enterprise Portal we have... [More]
