Have you ever been in a city for the first time and wondered what interesting places there are to visit? Ever had a desire for ethnic cuisine but didn’t know where the closest restaurant was located? Well, the team at the IBM Human Centric Solutions Center have created a solution, the IBM Intelligent Pervasive Platform (IPP) that provides the foundation for building mobile apps to solve these and many other problems. The team has taken IPP to another level by extending the platform to become the basis for building sensing device related solutions.
1. What is the IBM Intelligent Pervasive Platform?
The IBM Intelligent Pervasive Platform (IPP) is a comprehensive, open architecture framework aimed at the seamless delivery of relevant real-time information and services to mobile users based on their profile and location data. IPP enriches mobile applications with location-based services, delivers relevant information based on the user’s language preferences, and provides localization services including guidance and “where am I” detection.
2. How does IPP help?
The mobile app manages the lifecycle of the user interactions with the mobile app and data. IPP provides various services that facilitate the interaction with the user. One IPP service is the user profile service that manages mobile user information such as, preferred language, gender, age, and personal impairments. Based on the user profile, IPP provides the appropriate information and services to that user's mobile application. For example, the preferred language could be used by IPP to ensure that IPP returns the associated language specific content to the mobile application.
3. What other data besides the user profile does IPP support?
The IPP data model consists of two key objects; point of interest and category objects. Point of interest (POI) objects contains information about a specific point location such as, the location’s title/name, description, and its physical location. Category objects provide clas
4. What about the IPP extension to build sensing device related solutions?
The Intelligent Pervasive Platform (IPP) Sensor Extender supports sensing device related solutions. It supports collecting, formatting, and standardizing sensing device data generated when events occur. This measurement data can be enhanced with information about the associated sensing device and its geolocation. This refined measurement data can then be used as input to various application and as input to analytic solutions.
5. How can IPP and IPP Sensor Extender be used?
IPP solutions can play a key role in the Internet of Things by becoming a broker for data shared with or by devices. For example, IPP could be part of a mobile application that provides disabled people with information about accessibility points to public places based on their user profile. Also consider using IPP Sensor Extender and various sensing devices to enable seniors to continue to live safely in their homes. The opportunities are endless.
