BM SmartCloud for Social Business is implemented in a public cloud deployments model (service only) or a hybrid deployment model. In a service only deployment, the entire Infrastructure is hosted in the SmartCloud environment. There is no integration with any infrastructure on the organization’s internal (private) network, making it quick and easy to deploy.

In a hybrid deployment, the public cloud hosted services are configured to connect to services hosted in an organization’s internal (private) network. In this case, IBM SmartCloud for Social Business can integrate and communicate directly with services hosted “on premises” in an organization’s private network zone. The organization may choose to host some or all of their applications in the on-premises environment while accessing mail in the cloud, host a subset of users' mail in the cloud and a subset on premises -- a hybrid deployment offers a lot of flexibility.

The current implementation of Acceleration network technology takes advantage of an acceleration network with more than 75,000 edge servers. In addition, this highly available network infrastructure protects systems from single server/service failure while providing a more reliable performance experience.
