IBM® Intelligent Operations Center provides an executive dashboard to help city leaders gain insight into various aspects of city management. IBM Intelligent Operations Center is an integrated solution; it provides a rich set of capabilities that can be used out-of-the box and it also includes line of business tools that business users with domain expertise and no technical background can use to extend the solution easily and quickly.
In my job as an IBM Smarter Cities solution architect, I constantly run into business partners and clients that want to extend the base solution and develop capabilities specific to the domain and customer requirements. IBM Intelligent Operations Center programming model provides a set of services that allow developers to extend the solution using industry standards REST and JAVA technologies.
Here are 5 things to know about the IBM Intelligent Operation Center programming model services API:
The IBM Intelligent Operations Center solution integrates and uses data from multiple sources and makes sense of it on a single interface. It simplifies the disarray and complexity of multiple data sources that are too voluminous for easy consumption. It also provides a single consolidated, correlated view of all systems of an enterprise or city to make them usable without being overwhelming. The IBM Intelligent Operations Center data ingestion process allows you to pull information from tables and csv files. Data can also be acquired from CAP messages through a push mechanism. The Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs can be used to push information into IBM Intelligent Operations Center. The ingested data is stored in the system database into the target table for the corresponding data source.

Results are returned to the Java API as Plain Old Java Object (POJO). The Java APIs provide a standardized way to access the data from server-side code, without writing low level JDBC code (see figure 2). For information about the Java API refer to IBM
