DB2 with BLU Acceleration is an outstanding piece of technology. Its advanced, innovative capabilities are perfectly suitable to accelerate analytic workloads for data warehouses. Due to massive parallel processing abilities and automated optimization techniques, database tuning, indexes and aggregates are no longer needed. Thus storage requirements are lowered and the system uses other resources as memory and CPUs more efficiently. This new technology has been developed and integrated directly into the DB2 engine that makes the adoption of BLU Acceleration easy.
SAP Business Warehouse (SAP BW) is part of the SAP NetWeaver platform that provides business intelligence platform for business planning, enterprise reporting, query, and analysis. SAP customers can now adopt BLU Acceleration for their SAP BW environments. As of DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Version 10.5 Fix Pack 1, BLU Acceleration is supported in SAP BW and SAP's near-line storage solution on DB2.
Here are five things about the DB2 with BLU Acceleration and SAP integration that you might be interested.
1. BLU Acceleration support in the ABAP Dictionary
In the ABAP Dictionary, storage parameters are used to identify column-organized tables. The property, including the column-organized table, can be retrieved from the database and displayed in the "Storage Parameter" window of the SAP data dictionary.
2. BLU Acceleration support in the DBA Cockpit
The DBA Cockpit is enhanced with the new DB2 monitoring elements for column-organized tables. The DBA Cockpit extensions for BLU Acceleration are available in certain SAP NetWeaver releases and Support Packages. With the DBA Cockpit enhancements for BLU Acceleration, you can not only obtain individual table information on column-organized tables, but also columnar data processing information, buffer pool hit ratio, and so on.
3. BLU Acceleration support in SAP BW
BLU Acceleration is supported for InfoCubes and for SAP BW temporary tables. You can perform the following operations in SAP BW:
4. BLU Acceleration for SAP's near-line storage solution on DB2
SAP's near-line storage solution on DB2 (NLS) is enhanced so that tables for the NLS storage objects can be created as column-organized tables. By default, the data on NLS databases is stored in row-organized tables. If your NLS database runs on DB2 10.5, you can choose to create those tables as column-organized tables to take the advantage of BLU Acceleration technologies. The use of column-organized tables is supported with InfoCubes and DataStore objects.
5. Benefits of the SAP BW with BLU Acceleration integration
These are a few benefits of the SAP BW with BLU Acceleration integration:
