IBM FlashSystem® V9000 is a comprehensive all-flash enterprise storage solution that delivers the full capabilities of IBM FlashCore™ technology, with a rich set of software-defined storage features, including IBM Real-time Compression™, dynamic tiering, thin provisioning, snapshots, cloning, replication, data copy services, and high-availability configurations.
This week’s announcement of FlashSystem V9000 software V7.5 support brings extra functionality. including IBM HyperSwap® capability, increased IBM FlashCopy® bitmap space, Microsoft Windows off-loaded data transfer (ODX), and direct 16 Gbps Fibre Channel host attach support (except for IBM AIX®). Support also exists for VMware 6 that will enhance and improve scalability in a VMware environment.
Here are 5 things to know about the innovations of IBM FlashSystem V9000:
FlashSystem V9000 with IBM FlashCore Technology drives real-time analytical insights with up to 50x faster performance than enterprise disk systems. FlashCore is built on hardware accelerated I/O, advanced flash management, and IBM MicroLatency® modules with IBM-enhanced Micron technology.
The FlashSystem V9000 scalable solution provides consistent MicroLatency performance. You are able to scale-out with FlashSystem V9000 building blocks to add performance as needed to efficiently grow your business. FlashSystem V9000 scales up to 2.5 million IOPS and 19.2 GB/s bandwidth, has latency as low as 200 µs (4K), and proven Quality of Service.
2. Deploy the FlashSystem V9000 scalable configuration for maximum capacity
FlashSystem V9000 supports the ability to grow both the storage capacity and performance after deployment. The maximum scalable configuration, which we refer to as scale-up and scale-out, has a potential physical storage capacity of 456 TB usable.
Up to 2.2 PB effective capacity is available for this configuration at 80% compression using the Real-time Compression feature, now available as part of the Base licensing for FlashSystem V9000 building block.
3. Implement HyperSwap for multi-site protection
Newly supported HyperSwap capability with FlashSystem V9000 Software version 7.5, enables each volume to be presented by two I/O groups. This configuration will tolerate combinations of node and site failures, using a flexible choice of host multipathing driver interoperability.
The HyperSwap function provides highly available volumes accessible through two sites at a distance up to 300 km apart.
4. Unify VMware and FlashSystem V9000 with IBM Spectrum Control™ Base Edition 2.1.1
FlashSystem V9000 supports integration of vSphere APIs for Storage Awareness (VASA) and vStorage API for Array Integration (VAAI) by using IBM Spectrum Control Base 2.1.1. This is a centralized server system that consolidates a range of IBM storage provisioning, virtualization, cloud, automation, and monitoring solutions through a unified server platform (provides insight and awareness to VMware and vSphere about the configurations, capabilities and storage health, and events of a storage system).
With this capability, VMware administrators can independently and centrally manage their storage resources on IBM storage systems.
