2. Twice the memory capacity for the IBM E850 server
A fully configured IBM Power System E850 can now have up to 4 TB of memory maximum for a 4-socket system. 3 TB for a 3-socket, and 2 TB for a 2-socket. Keep in mind the memory placement rules when you talk with your clients. The memory DIMMs are 128 GB 1600 MHz DDR4 CDIMMs and cannot be mixed with DDR3. At least 4 CDIMMs per processor module must be used, and at least 50% activated. Though it is DDR4, it still runs at the same speed, so theoretical bandwidth performance has not changed.
Expanded offerings of eMLC4 drives, and drives specifically designed for read intensive workloads mean 2.5-inch disks drop as much as 33% in cost, and read intensive disks by as much as 70%.with some appealing maintenance offerings to ensure your data center is always operating at full capacity. These disks work with AIX, IBM I, and Linux offerings and are available on the E880, E850, S822, S824, S814, S824L, S822L, and S812L models.
4. Several interesting new adapter features are offered
A read intensive PCIe3 NVMe flash adapter offers an incredible performance advantage over SSD disks, a next generation large cache PCIe3 SAS RAID adapter is a workhorse designed for I/O intensive workloads., a new PCI3 2-port 8 Gb Fibre Channel adapter offers better price performance, IBM I gets a new 4-port async. adapter as older hardware falls out of support., and the 8348-21C (S812LC) now has available CAPI
5. IBM PowerVC 1.3.1 is enterprise ready
IBM PowerVC is rebranded to IBM PowerVC Cloud Manager has been enhanced with an online self-service portal and a selection of VMs and images to help you pick the best place to get started building your cloud. The self service portal provides one-click deploying of templates, role-based access control, and project-based resource isolation. Hitachi storage is now enabled, Novalink support has been enhanced to integrate with IBM I and allow remote restart.
And there is more! Take
