CICS Transaction Server offers you the world’s most advanced mixed language application server. Newly enhanced Java support combined with WebSphere Liberty Profile opens the door for increased interoperability while maintaining management of the mixed environments very simple.
Here are five things to know about CICS & Liberty:
1. What is WebSphere Liberty Profile?
Liberty is a lightweight, fast, and composable profile of WebSphere Application Server. This means that you load only the features you need, when you need them, resulting in an overall more efficient application server.
2. Benefits of running Liberty in CICS
When a request from a web client enters Liberty, it runs on a Java thread, just like with any WebSphere Liberty Profile server. However, because Liberty is running in a JVM server in CICS, the Java thread is already integrated with CICS such that the request also runs as CICS transactions. So when the web application needs to access a CICS resource, it happens immediately.
Take advantage of the Migration Toolkit for Application Binaries and WebSphere Application Server Migration Toolkit to analyze, validate, and create reports of your existing applications, identify dependencies that will help you planning your migration.
4. Workload balancing
5. Java & COBOL applications coexistence in a CICS Liberty JVM server
