Hello, again, For those of you in the US, I hope you enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend. If you're anywhere in the southern half of the US, you know it's HOT -- mid-to-upper 90's (mid-upper 30's C) and more. Try to stay out of the heat. NetView for z/OS V6.1 has been available for a few days now, so I'm sure you've all placed your orders. Today I want to say a little more about another nice feature that's new in this release -- on-demand tracing. As I'm sure you know, NetView allows you to monitor your TCP connections. And as I've previously... [More]
The IBM System z Integrated Information Processor (zIIP environment) accepts select data- and transaction-processing workloads from the z/OS operating system, which manages and coordinates the work between the primary processor and the zIIP processors. The use of zIIPs can lower your site's cost of operating its zSysterm hardware by reducing the work required of the Central Processing Unit (CPU). The Service Level Analysis component of OMEGAMON XE for CICS on z/OS, Version 510, now automatically detects and exploits zIIP processors... [More]
In this blog we will discuss the best practices for configuring Near Term History (NTH) data collection for the OMEGAMON XE for CICS product. The information provided in this blog is applicable for both the OMEGAMON XE for CICS product component and the OMEGAMON XE for CICS TG product component. The enhanced 3270UI Near Term History feature only requires that history collection be enabled for the desired attribute groups. The NTH reports viewed in the enhanced 3270UI are generated from the same history data that is used for the short-term... [More]

Just a reminder that OMEGAMON XE for zOS (4.2.0 and 5.1.0) will use RMF to collect metrics like Coupling Facility, XCF and Locking. This is a way to lower the OMEGAMON collection cpu used for customers already collecting this information with RMF. We plan to continue to use RMF more over time for OMEGAMON collection.
